but you have to admire his endurance.
The man is embattled and embittered, apparently suffering from a range of afflictions, not the least of which appears to be a serious alcohol addiction that could beat the crap out of many others; and yet, incomprehensibly (and not either advisably or desirably) he keeps on going.
Like it (or him) or not, that makes him a kind of example.
Now, Strummerfest doesn't extol his foul mouth. We believe that if there is anything really worth saying, it can and should be said without vulgarity of any kind.
And Strummerfest does not condone abuse of oneself by means of alcohol or any other substance. (Notice, we don't call it "alcohol or drug abuse": it's not about abusing the alcohol or the drugs; it's about the person drinking, snorting, sniffing, injecting or smoking it, which, like vulgarity, is never a necessity and is always unwise.)
And Strummerfest doesn't really believe Mayor Ford's apologies are completely sincere.
But Strummerfest does admire endurance through difficult challenges and personal concern.
Sometimes, confronted with lesser challenges than Rob Ford is now facing, people will give up. They might give up emotionally or physically, socially or professionally. Some give up on life entirely.
It's never the right time to give up.
And, see? This post, in and of itself, is a kind of example too: you really can find something good in almost everything!
