You know how sometimes, things just work out the way they probably should but you never thought they would... |
Well, that's kind of the way our 2014 plans for Strummerfest have gone. The year started with a gung-ho desire to take ourselves into Toronto for the summer and back to Kitchener in December, but with a key organizer's illness, a marriage and new baby in another's family, and other changes in life to members of our team, plus reduced available sponsors and booked-up venues, life and other things just kinda got in the way. But then, just when we figured a 2014 show was right out of the realm of possibility, along came the folks at Regal Road Studio in Guelph, bringing two cool punk bands (including one that specializes in vintage punk classics -- a.k.a. The Clash and some other people), and, well, how could we say no? |

The Bands
The Wormwood Scrubs
With us since Year 1 and back again, the increasingly popular, increasingly professional, but still homegrown and heart-warm, Wormwood Scrubs, headline Strummerfest 2014. [Website] [Facebook]
The Baudelaires
Having graced the Strummerfest stage twice before, The Baudelaires bring a sincerity to reggae expression that's not generally heard. outside of the classics (Marley, Toots, etc.). [Facebook]
C.I.D.
Newcomers to Strummerfest, C.I.D. bills itself a classic punk tribute/cover band. Recognizing the concepts of "tribute" and "punk" could be in tension, expect simply raw originalizing of classic punk anthems. [Facebook]
Too Nice
Another great local reggae band that's also not afraid to have fun, Too Nice joins Strummerfest for the first time on stage, after being supporters for quite some time. Nice to finally have them play with us. [Facebook]
Noiz A Noiz
Also new to Strummerfest, Noiz A Noiz has the raw feel of early young punks like The Clash and Sex Pistols in the 1970's. Between them and C.I.D., Strummerfest 2014 maintains punk creds for sure. [Facebook]
Chemical Marriage
Not only new to us, but probably new to you. No, this isn't just My Chemical Romance having finally tied the knot -- it's a new alternative duo, which isn't entirely new to us. One of the pair - Phil Nagy - performed in Strummerfest 2012, and also interviewed us on CJIQ in 2013. Nice to have old friends and supporters sticking around.

It's our pleasure to welcome back condominium development wonders, Momentum Developments, who continue to build exceptional homes in the Kitchener-Waterloo area.
RLB LLP, Chartered Accountants, located in Guelph and Waterloo, is another returning supporter who we welcome to 2014. YNC LLP, also Chartered Accountants, joins us for the first time in support of the 2014 "Last Minute" show. Willing and welcome sponsors of our cause.
Guelph lawyer, Rob Mullin, is not a punk, nor a rocker, but is a great supporter of Strummerfest. We appreciate his return this year, earning more cool creds by being part of our team.
Guelph-based MF Property Management is also a returning supporter. We welcome Maria and her team back into our corner, now on their home turf.
Kitchener-area accountants, CS&D, have calculated that Strummerfest is worth supporting for two years in a row. Thanks for coming back! Clifton Kok LLP, a boutique law firm located in Ayr, Ontario, has been a primary supporter since before Strummerfest really got started. It is the firm where the festival founder works. The firm has supported Strummerfest in more ways than can be counted and continues to do so.
